Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Attachment Disturbance
Arthur Becker-Weidman, Ph.D.
This workshop will describe what CPTSD is and how chronic early maltreatment within a caregiving relationship affects child development, relationships, attachment, and a variety of mental health, social, cognitive, and biological dimensions. Seven domains of impairment will be described. A brief overview of the implications of this for treatment will be provided.
The Power of Connection: The Intersection of a Child’s and Parent’s Attachment Styles on the Road to Healing
Vicky Kelly, Psy.D., LCSW, MHA
Parenting children with attachment disturbances often brings up issues from a caretaker’s past, which then impacts the child’s ability to bond with the caretaker. This workshop will discuss various attachment styles in both children and adults, how these styles interact, the effects of parenting children with attachment disturbances and the parallel process of healing often needed to help both the children and their families.
What does this mean for Child Welfare?
Arthur Becker-Weidman, Ph.D. & Panel
This workshop will focus on the concepts of Attachment Theory and Neurobiology and their implications for Child Welfare Policy. Selection, training, financial and emotional support of foster parents and consideration of the needs of all children in the home are essential program components for providing optimal healing and stable placements for children.
